In one of the world’s most gender equal societies, the music industry is still very male-dominated. The last years more women publicly speak up against sexism, and public debates have been about festival bookings, and the need for female representation on both sides of the music industry, not just as artists, but also as technicians, booking agents and so on.
One of the most male-dominated genres traditionally has been hip hop and rap. With few exceptions, the representations of women in the rap genre has mostly been as passive, sexualized, de-individualized decoration in videos, and panting sexy interludes on records.
